The prime location in the Shimogyo Ward district was a great find! It felt like being in the heart of Kyoto, with Sanjusangen-do Temple just 2.7 km away and Nijo Castle a short 2.9 km stroll. It was like having historical landmarks right at my doorstep!
Small rooms, but that's Japan! AC remote was in Japanese, took some time to figure out.

The value for money at Umekoij Kadensho was excellent, with clean and cozy rooms that provided a comfortable stay. The location was convenient, just one stop away from Kyoto station and within walking distance of Toji temple. The staff were friendly and helpful, making us feel welcomed throughout our stay.
Breakfast offerings could be improved with better organization and variety.

The staff was very welcoming, helpful and spoke English fluently. The private onsen was clean, and the relaxation room was very relaxing. I enjoyed the tatami mats in the rooms, and it was nice not to wear shoes inside. There were free treats offered at certain times, which were very tasty. The hotel provided a pamphlet at check-in, listing the location of facilities and services timings. Key location facts were easy to access.
While breakfast had several options, dinner was underwhelming and more expensive than expected based on quality. it was a pleasant and comfortable weekend, but some minor tweaks could have made it a better value.
